Austin Restoration 1 markings

Markings of the Austin.

On the right mudguard we discovered a circle during the restoration. The circle was branded into the metal and showed the symbol of the 49th infantry division "West Riding" : a polar bear.

On the left mudguard two figures appeared from under the paint. These also were branded into the metal. One was e circle and the other a square. The circle probably was from the bridge classification. In the square were some numbers, but it was very hard to make out which numbers. I have chosen the number  61, that should indicate the 1/4th Battalion King’s own Yorkshire L.I.

The Tilly Register (John Simpson) could tell me what WD-registration the Austin had by using the chassisnumber. The chassisnumber also was indicating the Austin was from 1940. With this information the WD-number should be M4324815.

And so the history of the Austin is slightly being revealed. But there are still many question, such as where the Austin has been, or could have been. When did she go to Malta? And for the future.....where will she go?
